Erbil FC to celebrate winning Iraqi championship

ERBIL, August 16 (AKnews) – A party will be held in Franso Hariri Stadium in Erbil today to celebrate crowning Erbil FC as the new champion of the Iraqi elite football league this season.

Hawler TeamErbil will play against Quwa al-Jawiya today in Erbil at 9:00pm. After the match the Iraqi Football Federation will hand out trophies and medals to champions, runners up and players of the elite football league.

Erbil Club was officially crowned champion of the Iraqi elite football league three weeks ago after it tied with Baghdad’s Taji FC 0-0 during week 17 of the second phase of this year’s season.

Erbil has to play one more match in it home stadium. The club will play against Kirkuk on August 19.

Erbil lost only one match this season against Karbala and bagged 81 points.

Erbil Club was crowned champion three times in a row in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Erbil now leads the league with 81 points, Duhok comes second with 73 points and Quwa al-Jawiya comes third with 70 points.
