DIYALA, July 28 (AKnews)- Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has "confiscated" the right of the security committee at Diyala Provincial Council (DPC) by assigning the security officials himself, a committee member said.

Suhad HayaliDPC which is elected by the public is the legitimate representative of the public and has the right to be consulted with when assigning officials to the security posts, said Suhad Hayali, of the Iraqiya List.

The deputy said Maliki as the general commander of the armed forces has "confiscated" this right of DPC by assigning the security officials directly.

She added even the Ministry of Interior does not take role in assigning the officials.

"We believe that Diyala security forces are not successful in performing the security plans …Furthermore, most of the security officials of the province are not from Diyala," Hayali said.

"The security forces are weak and feeble as well as being untrained and they cannot protect the security of the province," said Dler Hassan, a Kurdish deputy and deputy head of Diyala security committee.
