The residence was torched in December after Diyala Provincial Council officially demanded regional autonomy. One bodyguard was killed.

Jalil Ibrahim, a member of Diyala Council, told AKnews that some members of the Council have demanded to replace Diyala Governor.

Shiites and Sunni-dominated Iraqiya List politicians are now lustfully ogling the post. All the parties are trying to find a substitute for Diyala Governor, Taleb Mohammed, the head of Diyala Council said.

He added that Iraqiya and Islamic Party representatives who form the majority in Diyala Council can choose the next governor.

Nasreen Bahjat, a Kurdish member of Diyala Council, told AKnews that the Council members feel there is a gap in Diyala with Governor out of his office.

Suhad Hayali, an Iraqiya member of the Council said so far there is no final decision over replacing the Governor.
