BAGHDAD, Dec. 20 (AKnews) - The Iraqi Islamic Party criticized the attacks on and warrant for the arrest of Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi, asserting that these acts are incompatible with the principle of national partnership that the political process was built on.

Salim al-Jabbouri, spokesman for the party that is part of the Unity Coalition, told AKnews Iraqiya List is trying to end the crisis instead of making it worse.

Iraqiya List Representative Talal al-Zobaei told AKnews Iraqiya submitted a request during yesterday's meeting the Supreme Judicial Council, demanding the immediate formation of a committee of senior judges, on the condition they all are independent.

"More than eight members of Hashemi's security detail have been arrested so far. Athis is an unconstitutional, fabricated process," he added.

The Iraqi Interior Ministry announced last night an arrest warrant had been issued for al-Hashemi on a charge of terrorism. It presented the confessions of three members of al-Hashemi's protection squad where they said the Vice President had ordered them to carry out assassinations since 2009.

Iraqiya List, led by former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi, said earlier today that it will appeal the decision of the Iraqi judiciary to arrest al-Hashemi and confirmed their belief that the confessions were given under torture.
