Baghdad, April 29 (AKnews) - A number of Iraqi politicians have opposed the conference of the Baath Party- Yunis al-Ahmed pavilion, which is scheduled to be held today and aims to support the "Iraqi Resistance", while others underestimated its importance, calling for attention of the current situation in Iraq and to accelerate the formation of the government.
"Holding such special conferences to support the so-called Iraqi Resistance are totally unacceptable, especially if they were held on the territory of a neighboring country such as Syria," Khalid al-Asadi, a leader in State of Law List, led by outgoing Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said.
Yunis Al-Ahmed pavilion in the Baath Party in Damascus is witessing the holdig of the festival of "Supreme Committee for National Patriotic Democratic Fron,t" to support the "Resistance" in Iraq.
This conference will introduce some of Iraq's neighbors to international accountability by agreeing to hold these conferences, particularly in Syria and Turkey.
"Iraq will use all its international relations to prevent these countries from supporting terrorism by allowing the holding of this conference for giving legitimacy to killing Iraqi citizens. All neighboring and regional countries must refrain for hosting such conferences and respect the Iraqi sovereignty," Al-Asadi said.
"The continuation of these countries in taking care of some of the elements responsible for the killing of innocent people and above all the Baathist elements will force Iraq to take all possible means to protect its people," he added.
The Istanbul conference which was held at the beginning of April and attended by a number of blocs and groups that support the so-called "Iraqi resistance" has encountered a failure, according to what some leaders said at the conference.
Despite the refusal of some leaders of various political blocs for holding such conferences, few of them believed that holding such conferences is not important and attention must be to Iraq and not outside it.
Leader in al-Iraqiya list, Fawzia al-Obeidi confirmed that "These conferences are not important and don't have an impact on Iraq in any way because they are not held inside the Iraqi territory, but outside and this will underestimate their results."
"The Iraqi politicians must pay no attention to such conferences and strive to solve complex things that are inside Iraq now. Every Iraqi politician that entered the political process seeks to heal the Iraqi house again and save the political process from the current conflicts," she said.
A member of the Foreign Relations Committee in the parliament, Abdul-Bari Zebari refused these conferences, describing them as "non-viable and non-beneficial."
"This conference represents the other face of terrorism that is happening in Iraq. Iraq has now an international and global bulk and this conference cannot change the current democratic map," he added.
"All participants in these conferences must take a lesson from the failure of the Istanbul Conference, which sent a clear message to all that Iraq is now a strong country, and the term "resistance" can not be applied to it, especially after its accession to full sovereignty."
The political analyst Abbas al-Yasiri said that "Syria's hosting for such conferences is a clear signal of its attempt to put pressure on Iraq at the time when its political leaders are trying to form the next government."
"The Syrian government's attempt to put pressure on the electoral process and the process of forming the new government in Iraq is very clear through their sponsorship of such conferences that support terrorism," he added.
He pointed out that "the presence of Younis Al-Ahmed , who is accused of a number of terrorist crimes in Iraq, in this conference is a proactive step to pick up both flanks of the Baath party, especially after news of the killing or capture of Izzat al-Duri, a leader in the Party."
The outlawed Baath party had split into two main flanks: Yunis al-Ahmed flank and Izzat al-Duri's and they disagrree about holding the Qatari conference for the party to review the previous phase where Yunis Al-Ahmed's flank insists on holding a national conference for the party while al-Duri refuses convening the conference under the pretext that the stage is inappropriate.
"Holding any conference to support the so-called Iraqi Resistance in Damascus will enhance the existing differences between Iraq and Syria and increase the diplomatic crisis between them," al-Yasiri said.
The first conference of Yunis Al-Ahmed's flank comes a few days after the latter's call for all factions of the Iraqi Baath Party to unite and at first Izzat al-Duri, the Vice-Chairman of Iraq's former ruling Revolution Command Council (RCC).
