Cairo, March 14 (AKnews) - Iraqiya List headed by the former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi is leading the Iraqi expatriates votes, according to results announced Saturday by the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) office in Egypt.
"The results of the elections to the Iraqi community in Cairo are distributed as: 77% for Iraqiya list and 7% for State of law Coalition" Haider Ismail Fakhreddine, deputy director of Cairo office said.
Iraqiya List is a strong competitor for Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki's State of Law Coalition according to observers.
Iraq's general vote took place on March 7 where 19 million Iraqis from 18 provinces, in addition to 1.9 million expatriates in 16 countries were entitled to elect a new parliament.
Hundreds of local and international journalists, observers and NGOs including the UN eyed the elections.
