ERBIL, Aug. 6 (AKnews) - The National Syrian Kurdish Council assured that the Kurdish people in Syria are the ones who will decide their fate and not the generals of the free army and Syrian security.

The council said in a statement: "It is known that the principle of self-determination which is internationally recognized is the right of the concerned peoples and it is not in the hands of others to act as they want and according to certain policies.

“The politicians decide the adopted policies in the democratic countries and not the army and security generals whose duty is to protect the constitution and the nation, and not to prevent any part of the people from political expression and demanding of its rights.

"The Kurdish people don’t accept anyone to represent them in determining their right of self-determination because they are the only owner of this right and can apply it practically.

"The Syrian Kurdish National Council considers itself committed to defending the case of its people in western Kurdistan, and sees federalism as the best way to allow these people to manage themselves in the framework of national unity for independent, free and democratic Syria.”

The Council called on "all factions of the Kurdish political and cultural movement and even the other forces of the national and democratic opposition in Syria and abroad to support the efforts of the Kurdistan National Syrian Council and agree on ‘federalism’ and the establishment of a local government to manage western Kurdistan in a democratic joint way on the basis of international law”.

“And work to enhance the Kurdish national right in the new Syrian constitution, which should keep the rights of all ethnic and religious parties, based on justice and reality in a way that does not contradict with the principles of freedom and democracy and the principle of self-determination of people.”
