ERBIL, August 1 (AKnews) – There was 100 divorce cases in the last seven months in Rania in the Kurdistan Region, while 482 people got married in the same period.
The court however adjourned 90 of these cases for other sessions.
Some 1,400 people got married in 2011 in the town. Some 203 of them asked for a divorce and 188 of them received divorce papers. Fifteen of the cases were postponed.
Activist Nigar Hama Ali said the divorce rate increased considerably and this is due to early marriage, culture and the community.
The Kurdistan Region's Ministry of Planning announced earlier this month that five percent of the region's females get married before 18.
