KARBALA, July 28 (AKnews) A member from Ahrar bloc in the Sadrist Movement said Saturday that the statements of the second deputy of the parliament speaker about Iraq's intention to buy weapons from Russia raises questions about what the Kurds want from the federal government.

The second deputy of the parliament speaker Arif Taifur expressed his reservations about Iraq's intention to buy weapons from Russia, expressing his concerns about the use of these weapons against Kurds.

Yusuf al-Tai said: "The statements of MP Aref Tayfur raise suspicion and mistrust about the federal government, as Iraq needs to arms to protect itself, especially with the tense situation on the Iraqi-Turkish borders and the Iraqi-Syrian borders.

"The federal government is preparing a military strategy, and it has the right to conclude arms deals with any state, whether to buy heavy or light weapons.

"Such statements from time to time raise our concerns about the region. The federal government must have a comprehensive study to find out what the region wants before launching such statements that may lead to the emergence of a new crisis."

Last week the Iraqi defense minister began a visit to Moscow to discuss the purchase of heavy weapons, thus raising the fears of Kurds.
