Turkish ruling party plans to grant Kurds right of education in native language

July 28 (AKnews) - Turkish media sources said Saturday that the ruling
Justice and Development Party led by Turkish Prime Minister Recep
Tayyip Erdogan plans to make constitutional changes that will allow
granting Kurds the right of education in Kurdish language.
CNN Turkish news channel stated that the ustice and
Development Party submitted a draft law to the constitution
compatibility committee in the Turkish parliament headed by
Turkish parliament speaker Cemil Cicek calling for changing article 42,
which says only Turkish language is adopted in the schools of
the country.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said
during the meeting of the ruling Justice and Development Party last
month that as of the next school year Kurdish language will be added to
the curriculum in the early stages of basic education, in addition to
making it a second optional language if enough students wish to learn it.
Within the constant quest to solve the Kurdish problem,
the government is implementing a number of reform steps to end
the conflict, which has lasted for several decades. In 2009 Kurdish
language was approved as a teaching language in universities and a
satellite channel on Kurdish TRT6 was launched.
