NGOs federation urges govt. trace missing journalist
10/07/2012 15:06ERBIL, July 10 (AKnews)- Kurdistan NGOs Federation called on the officials to locate the whereabouts of the missing journalist of Kurd-Israel Magazine, Mewlud Afend.
Kurd-Israel's chief editor went missing on June 8 when he was on a visit to Suli. Dawud Baghestani, the head of Kurd-Israel Foundation, issued a statement, suspecting Iran and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's intelligence services of being behind the case.
Sirwan Gardi the spokesperson of Kurdistan NGOs Federation told a press conference today in Erbil's Zeytun Library that Kurdistan presidency, government and parliament should soon find out what has happened to Afend.
Gardi said "it's strange for us" that so far the civil society activists, writers and journalists "especially in Suli province," have kept silent about the case.
Afend is originally a Kurd from Mahabad, Iran. He has been living in Erbil since 2003. Last year Iran demanded Kurdistan officials to shut down the Kurd-Israel magazine.
