Iraq seeks to benefit from chairing Arab summit

BAGHDAD, June 5 (AKnews) - Iraq's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed details of resolutions and projects that Iraq intends to implement in the near future as the president of the Arab summit, adding that Iraq already began supporting some Arab countries.

Hoshyar Zebari - EgyptForeign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said at a news conference at the ministry in Baghdad: "We seek to achieve a group of projects and plans to activate the role of Iraq, and this issue was discussed recently in the Council of Ministers. A series of important decisions were taken including supporting the Palestinian Authority's budget by $25m (29bn IQD) as part of Iraq's commitments to the Iraqi summit of Baghdad.

"There was also an agreement to send a delegation of some of the technical ministries of Iraq to the countries that participated in the Baghdad summit, such as Somalia, the Comoros and Djibouti to help in some projects. We have a set of ideas about the projects to support these countries."

Zebari revealed that the program of the Iraqi government for the next stage is represented by hosting a conference about Palestinian prisoners in Israel, and calling for a conference to write the constitution in the countries of Arab spring, as well as hosting a conference about terrorism and ways to combat it after the introduction of terrorism items in the Baghdad summit.

"Among the projects also is hosting a meeting of Arab and foreign experts to activate the main system of the Arab Parliament which was formed and still lacks a system, in addition to the project of Baghdad hosting the first Arab cultural summit that the Iraqi government is seeking to achieve during Iraq's chairing of the Arab summit."
