Car accidents claimed 20 lives in six months in Kirkuk

KIRKUK, June 27 (AKnews)- In the past six months some 20 people from Kirkuk province were killed in 337 car accidents, Kirkuk traffic police chief said.

Car AccidentIn the meantime 91 more people were wounded in the same events, Brig. Omar Jaafar said.

Jaafar added one reason for the traffic accidents in Kirkuk is related to lack of enough traffic policemen.  

He said only 339 policemen are available in Kirkuk while there are no policemen at some 100 traffic checkpoints.
 
For better controlling the situation in Kirkuk, the official said his directorate demands 1,200 more policemen.

Jaafar added "but we don't know when they will employ them for us."
