Two men convicted of “terrorism” sentenced to death

ERBIL, June 26 (AKnews) – Two men have been sentenced to death by hanging after the central criminal court found them guilty of terrorist attacks in the country.
A statement released by the Judiciary Council on Tuesday said the court found the two men guilty after their involvement in “terrorist acts by the so called Islamic State of Iraq and the Ansar al-Sunnah organizations” was established.
The statement said one of the two convicts was detained by the security forces while videotaping “one of the terrorist operations that targeted police forces in Baghdad’s Green Zone”
The convict has admitted to involvement in the operation that left “a number of police forces injured” according to the statement.
The second man was also found guilty by the court for a couple in Baghdad’s al-Yarmuk neighborhood.
“The court… sentenced another person to death by hanging after it was established that he had been involved in a terrorist organization” the statement said, “the convict has admitted to killing a man and his wife in al-Yarmuk area in Baghdad”
He has also admitted to retaining membership in the al-Qaeda organization, according to the statement.
