ERBIL, April 24 (AKnews) – At least one Turkish soldier and one village guard have been killed by the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) rebels in clashes in Bingol province, southeast of Turkey, Turkish media reported.
Eight others, among them three village guards have also been injured in the clashes that took place in Genc district of Bingol province.
Village
guards are Pro-Turkish government Kurdish militia armed by the Turkish
government to provide support to the Turkish army against the PKK. Kurds consider
these guards as "traitors"
Turkish sources reported earlier that three PKK rebels were killed by Turkish
forces in the same district.
PKK is a Kurdish armed group that has been fighting the Turkish state for three decades. The fighting has claimed some 40,000 lives since 1984.
