KRG encourages farmers by transportation fee payback

Erbil, Feb. 8 (AKnews) – Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) – general director of agriculture and water resources revealed that "form early this month the Ministry will provide the costs of transporting fruits and vegetables to the farmers by 100%".
 
"We have allocated 7 billion Iraqi Dinars for paying the transportation costs to farmers" that is the cost of transporting their agricultural products from the farms into the markets, Tuesday, general director, Abwar Qadir, told The Independent National News Agency of Kurdistan (AKnews).
 
"By following a regular program for helping farmers and putting taxes on foreign imports, the level of agricultural production would raise," Umer added.
 
A statistical figure by the KRG-Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources demonstrates that, 240 tons of fruits and vegetables of was produced in Kurdistan Region in 2007, while the additional of 302 tons was recorded in 2008, and 100 tons is expected to have been added in 2009 as compared with the previous year.
