Ancient caves discovered in Dohuk
Dohuk, 30 June (AKnews) – Three temple-like caves discovered in Dohuk province have been added to the list of archaeological sites of the province.
Director of Dohuk Archaeology Department Hassan Ahmad
announced the discovery of the caves – which were once used for worshipping -

The caves are called Zindakhor meaning “the living sun,” because they face sunlight all the time.
Ahmad expected to find more caves in the mountain but says more excavations are needed to unearth them.
The caves are believed to be dedicated to Mitra, an ancient Indo-Iranian divinity.
Dohuk museum has more than 1000 artifacts and there are 700 archaeological sites in the province.
