Winners awarded at Erbil’s Short Film Festival

ERBIL Aug. 12 (AKnews) The winning films in the first Short Film Festival for Youth were honored in Erbil at the festival’s closing ceremony.
The festival lasted for five days with the participation of 26 short films.
The closing ceremony, which was attended by Kurdistan’s Minister of Culture and Youth Kawa Mahmoud, included the distribution of prizes among the winning films participating in the festival after screening four short films.
Director of the festival Zaradasht Mouhammed said the festival was a success, assuring that the Kurdistan Regional Government supports the establishment of cinemas to revive the film industry in the Kurdistan Region.
Minister Mahmoud said: "The government is keen to provide ongoing support for cinema art in the Kurdistan Region and major efforts have been done in this respect."
Director of cinematography in Erbil Adnan Othman said on behalf of the festival’s jury committee: "The filmmakers participating in the festival were able, without being exposed to any external pressures, to succeed in the objective classification of their works. The awards were granted for different people, except the best actor award, which was awarded to two artists."
The prizes awarded to the winners were: the award for best sound, The Other Side of the Crime, directed by Sami Kaka, the award for best photography, Sun Wear, for artist Mustafa Abdullah, the best montage of Suhaim Umar for the film The Land of Heroes, and the best child actor for Helaln Betesy for the film Only Once.
The best actress award was granted for Hero Aziz for the film Three and the best actors award for artists Omar Jaoshin and Schwann Atouf. The best scenario for Rezkar Hussein for the film Bicycle, the best director for Suhaim Omar for the film The Land of Heroes and the best documentary for Tufan Abu Bakr for the film Real and Barcelona.
