Kurdish officials honor Islamic Revolution anniversary in Erbil
12/02/2012 14:44ERBIL, Feb. 12 (AKnews) - The 33rd anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of Iran was commemorated in Erbil, capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, today.
Kurdistan Regional President Massoud Barzani and Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Kamal Kirkuki attended the occasion along with the leaders of the Islamic and other political parties in Kurdistan.
Sayed Azim Husseini, Iranian Consul General to Erbil, delivered a statement at the ceremony, expanding on the Islamic Revolution under the Imam Khomeini leadership in 1979 which replaced Mohammad Reza Shah's secular government with an Islamic one.
"We're commemorating a great revolution in the area which was a turning point in the history of the Iranian people," Kurdistan government spokesperson Kawa Mahmoud said.
