Yazidees and Christians participate in Muslims commemoration of Prophet’s birthday
09/02/2012 18:37DUHOK, Feb. 9 (Aknews) – In the multi-ethnic and multi-faith province of Nineveh, Yazidis and Christians participated in Mawlid al-Nabawai - Muslims celebrations of the birthday of the prophet of Islam that started earlier this week and is expected to continue for a month – in a show of peaceful co-existence between the followers of the different faiths in the region.
Yazidi and Christian clerics participated in a ceremony held al-Faruq Mosque in Nineveh’s Baashiqa district, 17 km north east of the provincial capital Mosul, by the Nineveh branch of the Kurdistan Islamic Scholars union (KISU).
Muhni Ghanim Abdullah, KISU representative in Nineveh told AKnews that the participating in cross-faith celebrations would strengthen the relations between the different groups in the country. “This is not the first time they participate in our ceremonies. They come every year, the same way as we participate in their celebrations”
“This communication between the followers of the three faiths is an example of brotherly relations that link the people of the region.. This is deeply rooted in our culture. Even during the times of our for fathers as far back as more than half a century ago, there were participation in cross-faith celebrations”
