BAGHDAD, Jan. 16 (AKnews) – Iraq is planning to showcase its historic artifacts in mobile fairs around the world, including several European capitals.

Antiquities and Heritage Committee chairman Qais Hussein Rashid told AKnews the purpose of the mobile fairs is to promote Iraqi heritage and history to attract investment in exploratory archaeology to the country where thousands of years of history lie beneath the ground.

The fair will visit Germany and Spain, among other countries, says Rashid: "This can be considered an investment plan which can attract archeological exploration projects to Iraq.”

The artifacts to be put on the show will be from Assyrian, Sumerian, Acadian, Babylonian and the pre-Islamic eras, among others.

“The pieces to be exhibited will see light for the first time since 2003 when they were packed in the Iraqi museum stores to save them from destruction or looting,” Rashid added.
