Arab League and Development Fund to achieve Cultural Unity

Cairo, Feb. 8 (AKnews)- The Arab League and the Development Fund will cooperate to enhance the Arab cultural movement parallel to the development, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Amr Moussa has said in a speech today and attnded by the Independent National News Agency of Kurdistan (AKnews) correspondent..
Moussa outlined the importance of promoting culture especially when the Arab countries have such a great cultural legacy.
President of the Arab Fund and Lebanese former Culture Minister Ghassan Salameh said in a press release: "The Fund had always supported the culture and the arts in the Arab world with an aid estimated at one million dollars, through 62 grants for intellectuals and artists during the four years following its establishment"
He noted that the support of the Fund will increase by 20 % in year 2010 .
"The Fund engages intellectuals across the Arab world in the process of arbitration and the Board of Trustees..." The aim is to achieve an Arab cultural unity resistant to political and economic storms", and he sees that unity can only be achieved by finding the required money.
Salameh stressed out that "The Fund contributes along with the Arab League to lay solid foundations for the unity of Arab culture despite the growing differences in other fields."
The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture is an Arab independent non-profit organization dedicated to empowering culture in the Arab world and to provide a sustainable funding for the artists, as well as the artistic and cultural institutions, promoting cultural exchange within this region.
The idea of creating the fund dates of September 2004 , after the initiative of "al-Mawred al-Thaqafy" (Culture resource) organization, and consultation with over forty institutions, cultural organizations, individuals and major donors.
